Making rock candy for me goes back to when I was in middle school in science class. All in all this will less than 5 minutes to do! Put on your favorite song and sooner than you know it you'll be done! My choice? Holiday by Madonna...
There's really no "perfect time" for making rock candy...You can make it anytime! I remember making orange and black rock candy skewers wrapping them with orange cellophane for Halloween and making red and green skewers for Christmas wrapping them in red cellophane. Also note these also make a great little "I was thinking of you" gifts or simply a pure sugar "pick me up" for you! Rocking out while making rock candy at home comes with ease and is FUN!
1 cup
pencil, paperclip and string or a skewer and clothespin
1 plate
bag of pure sugar
glass jar
a pot
3 drops of food coloring (optional)
Flavoring
- Take 1 cup water (add the food coloring and flavoring)
- Pour water into pot and place over hot stove until water comes to boil.
- Meanwhile pour 2 cups of sugar into boiling pot stirring constantly until sugar melts. Take off stove and wait till water cools down a little.
- Tie a string to pencil measure length of string to glass jar and add paper clip to end of string.
- Pour cooled down water and sugar into jar.
- Put paper clip into jar having pencil laid across top of jar or have skewer held into jar propped up with clothespin.
- Add sugar to plate just enough to layer the plate.
- Take paper clipped pencil out of jar and lay in sugar on plate.
- Coat the string and paperclip in sugar and return to jar.
- Take a moment to look on the bottom of the jar, adventskalender werbegeschenk you should see crystals forming due to saturation.
And now we wait. You should see crystals forming in 2 to 3 hours. Leave in for as long as you want...the longer the larger!
